Winds of greed

This is in response to “Jealous Wind:” I notice that the people who are opposed to wind turbines always talk about concerns for health, environment and energy production, whereas those in favor always talk about the money. It’s all about greed.

Working hard

It seems a lot of people are working, and that’s a good thing. But there doesn’t seem to be a lot of money. I know many people having to work two and three jobs to make ends meet. My wife and I are retired but I have to go back to work because everything has gone up so much.

Schiff-ty

Anyone with half a brain can see through Congressman Adam Schiff when he attempts to portray himself as an American patriot and staunch supporter of the Constitution. Like a chameleon that changes its color, Schiff changes from villain to patriot in the blink of an eye.

Demo time

I think MoDOT should consider a parkway to replace I-229 in Downtown St. Joseph. Lots of cities have examples of roadways like this that still route traffic effectively. Rebuilding the bridge would just amount to sinking money into a temporary solution. Let’s reclaim Downtown’s riverfront view.

Turn the page

I find it incredible that you’re supposed to be a newspaper, and all the newspapers in the country are reporting impeachment on page one. You have yet to report one day where you show that as the main story on any of page one, you hide it on page two. Good grief.

A big farce

This impeachment farce is ridiculous. If that phone call was an impeachable offense, and holding up aid is an impeachable offense — even though he did give it to them and they didn’t even know he held it up, because of corruption — then every president, past and future, should be indicted and should be impeached.

Poor plan

Have you heard of the Medicare Advantage plans? There are no providers north of Kansas City. How can they sell this to every individual?

Bridge too far

Seriously? A resolution to declassify Interstate 229? You have got to be kidding me.

The Donald is the worst human to hold the office president of the US despite the imaginations of aunt bee and Arch. And the US has elected some real losers. The Donald is the loserest.

aj0201

No matter what, they had to justify his actions after the fact. This is hardly the work of someone looking for “truth, justice, and the American way!”

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House undertook a confidential review of documents that revealed extensive efforts to generate an after-the-fact justification for President Donald Trump’s decision to hold up military aid to Ukraine, the Washington Post reported Sunday.

The Post, citing three people familiar with the records, said the research was conducted by the White House Counsel’s Office. Among the hundreds of documents found were email exchanges between acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney and White House budget officials seeking to provide an explanation for the withholding of nearly $400 million in security assistance.”

WrightWinger

You make it sound so sinister. Of course the White House will be doing document searches, THEY ARE PREPARING FOR TRIAL!!!! The trial of the century!!! Maybe a long one, maybe a VERY LONG trial. What do you think, they will just lay over and play dead? President Trump fights back hard over any slight, no matter how insignificant. What do you think he would do at trial? Say, "Oh, I'm so sorry and I won't do it again, now slap my wrists." Not likely!! He will fight and right now he is playing the winning hand....AND Pelosi knows it. She wishes she had never let this get started, but don't know how to end it now it has gone so far. This going to end up a BIG hurt for all the 2020 Democrat candidates, both Congress and presidential. And I love it.

aj0201

Read the first paragraph of the article again. You’ve missed the point. The current review (in preparation of a trial) reveals emails from a while back (not in preparation of a trial) that shows the acting chief of staff trying to justify withholding money to Ukraine. Like a kid caught stealing cookies, they’re making up excuses after the fact.

WrightWinger

There isn't any point to "miss." It is only "assumed" or "presumed" (how many times did we hear those words or variations of them last week) there was some self-serving reason for a minor delay in releasing the aid monies and it is really only an "assumption" or "presumption" the President ordered the delay. Stop "assuming" facts not in evidence, especially if derived from WaPo drivel.

WrightWinger

Plus, any documents of that nature would have to be produced at some point in discovery, just as well to get it done during this period of comparative downtime. And, more importantly, the e-mail documents aren't destined for destruction like the 30,000 classified e-mails Hillary had destroyed as part of her coverup scheme.

:

Dear Mr. President:

It has been the extreme honor of a lifetime to stand alongside the men and women of the Navy and Marine Corps team in the protection of the American people and the values we all hold dear.

Together we have made great strides over the past two years, strengthening the foundation of our readiness, and bolstering our constellation of allies and partners, to respond wherever needed with the honor and professionalism that have marked our force for the past 244 years.

Now more than ever, the United States Navy and Marine Corps stands ready and firm in every part of the globe, fueled at all times by our greatest resource – the men and women who wear the uniform. Many of them will soon miss their Thanksgiving dinners at home so that they can continue the watch beyond the curve of the horizon. They and their families are, and will forever be, my personal heroes.

As Secretary of the Navy, one of the most important responsibilities I have to our people is to maintain good order and discipline throughout the ranks. I regard this as deadly serious business. The lives of our Sailors, Marines and civilian teammates quite literally depend on the professional execution of our many missions, and they also depend on the ongoing faith and support of the people we serve and the allies we serve alongside.

The rule of law is what sets us apart from our adversaries. Good order and discipline is what has enabled our victory against foreign tyranny time and again, from Captain Lawrence's famous order "Don't Give up the Ship," to the discipline and determination that propelled our flag to the highest point of Iwo Jima. The Constitution, and the Uniform Code of Military Justice, are the shields that set us apart, and the beacons that protect us all. Through my Title Ten Authority, I have strived to ensure our proceedings are fair, transparent and consistent, from the newest recruit to the Flag and General Officer level.

Unfortunately, it has become apparent that in this respect, I no longer share the same understanding with the Commander in Chief who appointed me, in regards to the key principle of good order and discipline. I cannot in good conscience obey an order that I believe violates the sacred oath I took in the presence of my family, my flag and my faith to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.

The President deserves and should expect a Secretary of the Navy who is aligned with his vision for the future of our force generation and sustainment. Therefore, with pride in the achievements we've shared, and everlasting faith in the continued service and fidelity of the finest Sailors, Marines and civilian teammates on earth, I hereby acknowledge my termination as United States Secretary of the Navy, to be effective immediately.

I will forever be grateful for every opportunity to have served, from my days as a Marine, to the extreme honor of serving as the 76th Secretary of the Navy. My wife Polly and I stand in appreciation and admiration of the patriots who today forge the next link in the unbroken chain of our Navy and Marine Corps, and we urge all Americans to keep them, and their families, in their hearts and prayers through this holiday season and beyond.

Thank you once again for the opportunity to serve.

Respectfully yours,

Richard V. Spencer

Adam Schiff---on CNN's "State of the Union", says he is "undecided" about impeachment, that he wants to meet with his colleagues to "discuss if it meets the requirements of the Constitution". In other words, "how do we get out of this mess?"

Polls are showing diminishing support for impeachment, especially in "swing" states. My prediction---"censure" only.

Only a midget mind like yours would think what accomplishments of his are true accomplishments as well as his own David Stockman in his book "Peak Trump: wrote "Peak Trump happened on September 20, 2018, when the S&P's giant bubble topped out at 2941. It has been downhill for the market ever since; and with much more meltdown to go, it means the Donald, too, is heading for a great fall. That's because at the end of the day the Donald is not remotely the force of nature he's been made to seem by the Trump obsessed media. To the contrary, he's actually a political flyweight, megalomaniacal incompetent and bile ridden bully who stumbled into the Oval Office against all odds; and then lucked out a second time by riding high high on the final two year crest or a deeply impaired and unsustainable economic recovery cycle and monumental stock market bubble, So doing, however., the Donald committed the most egregious rookie mistake in the history of the American presidency. That is, he insouciant embraced a financial bubble that was destined to crash and took ownership of a struggling geriatric business cycle expansion that had " recession ahead" written all over forehead." By the way old man in case you forgot, David Stockman was Reagan's budget guru that gave us the like of trickle down,

Winds of greed...uhhh, there are no established health issues with wind turbines. Despite the Presidents thoughts of cancer. The environmental impact of wind energy is less than strip mining for coal. I guess we do have a tv weatherman who has decided their inefficient, but that is ridiculous. He forgets that wind is free. I know, some dingbat will respond with the cost to either build or decommission a turbine, but they fail to realize that right now the levelized cost of energy shows that wind is far cheaper than coal. That is fact. It isn’t the perfect answer to energy needs, but let’s at least be honest about it.

Solar energy would be ideal.

Big farce....the notion of corruption is ridiculous given that Trump in no way asked or talked about any form of corruption. He wanted dirt on the Bidens. Period. So the question is this and only this: are you good with a President who seeks help from a foreign country for personal political gain? And if you say “all Presidets do that,” I’m afraid I’ll have to ask for proof of that.

WrightWinger

#TRUMP2020....President Trump, Making America Great Again, Every Day & Every Way

aj0201

Not much of an “originalist,” are you?

WrightWinger

Well, the "three-fifths clause" is troubling, but for the rest of the venerable document, I can live with it

aj0201

“Troubling?” Orignialists tryoically go beyond the Constitution itself and understand the meaning behind what the Founders wrote. They read various sources such as letters and, maybe, documents like The Federalist Papers. Throw in various speeches, such as Washington’s farewell address and you start to get a clear understanding of how and what they were thinking. Foreign influence was a significant concern for them, regardless of political persuasion (federalist, Anti federalist, etc). As such, you’d think those that claim “conservatism” as their brand would be more concerned. However, it is obvious that in some circles, conservatism has been replaced by “Trumpism.” Morality? Not an issue. Fiscal conservatism? “Deficits don’t matter.” Protection from foreign influence? Not only not a problem but welcomed and encouraged.

aj0201

2/5 would have been less troubling for you? 1/5?

WrightWinger

As with the Bible, I have tried to live my life in concert with the ideals and concepts of truth and fairness memorialized in the words of the U. S. Constitution. Do I know exactly how each and every word was argued over? No, but I do know there was a lot of dissension and the final product was a compromise not at all adored by many, some of them "very fine people" of their day. Those differences in interpretation (a lack of "clear understanding?") exist to this very day, otherwise every SCOTUS decision would be 9 to 0. You think the President has committed offenses so serious as to require his removal from office. I don't. But, the Constitutional process to finalize the issue one way or the other is underway and a decision WILL be arrived at. Whatever it is, I will accept. Will you?

aj0201

Sure! Absolutely. Just like the Electoral College vote, right? And you make a good point about why so many SCOTUS decisions are anything but 9-0. However, the issue of foreign influence is pretty clear across the board. I cannot believe that you could find any writing from the Founders that showed even an ambivalence to foreign influence in our government and elections, let alone allowing the President to encourage it and accept it.

James Bond1

Wonder what the difference is...……….capitalism is about where Trump is headed.

WrightWinger

One percent of the annual U. S. federal budget is spent on "foreign influence" in one form or another. A "return on investment" is expected, or even demanded, in return for our largesse. President Trump knew corruption had been extant in Ukraine and found it reasonable to request assurances from the newly elected Zelensky he would address the problem, even naming some past affronts of specific concern. Mention was made in passing of a pending aid package, a future meeting was said to be anticipated and the conversation ended on an exchange of niceties. The aid package was briefly delayed to allow our government to ascertain if the newly appointed Cabinet and newly elected Parliament of Ukraine could reasonably be expected to assist in ending corruption. When that condition was met, the aid package was released and the two Presidents had a cordial meeting at the UN. There was no "quid pro quo," no crime, no bribery, no extortion.....yet we see an example of vindictiveness on parade, one brought by a rabidly partisan group only because their candidate lost an election. What a poor spectacle to reasonable people this is turning out to be!!

James Bond1

wonder what an "originalist" is...…………………………..?

aj0201

You paint a nice glossy picture, but devoid of substance. The ONLY corruption Trump May have been considering is that of the Bidens. And that has been proven to be false. Somehow, in the matter of a few weeks, Trump supposedly made a matter of corruption known and was sufficiently satisfied that there was no corruption thus releasing the aid? Again, all in a matter of weeks? Other than the Bidens, what corruption was considered and what were the findings? The “Crowdstrike” issue was known to be a non issue at that point. There was no server hidden in Ukraine. There was no election tampering in Ukraine. And the intelligence community informed Republican House members before the public inquiry hearings. What is left is that Trump was seeking info on a political rival. That is all. And he encouraged China to investigate as well. All based on demonstrably false information.

WrightWinger

Nothing "has been proven to be false" about the Bidens, their case is pending investigation. We DO have Joe on record demanding the investigation of his son be terminated in exchange for $1 billion American.

Kharnage86

Wrightwinger you and the other Trumpers will be sorely dismayed when The real Americans put in their vote and get someone that actually cares about America and doesn't have to lie every single day over and over again. The Trumpers will still be pathetic because know the rest of us know how they really are but at least they won't have an ignorant and immoral mouth piece in the White House to let them feel justified in their own stupidity and ignorance.

WrightWinger

Sewage86....You need to change the news feeds you get on your mini-TV screen in your miserable little attic garret. "Truth is The real Americans" DID "put in their vote and get someone that actually cares about America" and his name is Donald J. Trump. Now, you want to know another "TRUTH?" The "REAL AMERICANS" are going to re-elect the same Donald J. Trump for a second term as President of the United States. Take that to the bank, little fella, it's gonna happen.

aj0201

Good grief. The Ukrainians say that Hunter Biden did nothing wrong and wasn’t under investigation.

WrightWinger

Good grief. The Ukrainians say there was no "quid pro quo" arrangement with President Trump and wonder why in the he!! their friend is being subjected to an impeachment inquiry, a friend that provided them actual firepower in the form of Javelin tank killers to use against the Russian invaders. They remember only too well the "aid" they got from Obama and Biden's six visits to their country to see how Hunter was doing. That "aid" was surplus military blankets and MRE's left over from the Iraq War. They think the Democrats, hangers-on supporting impeachment and the fake news media are CRAZY!!!

James Bond1

What's an originalist...……….if your accusing me of being one, it must be a pretty good thing to be.

aj0201

And now we are at the fundamental difference. You have no problem with a President seeking foreign assistance against a political foe for purely political reasons. I do.

aj0201

He wanted the investigations. Whether that constitutes a “quid pro quo” is irrelevant. I see it as an abuse of power. I suspect you would too, if it were Obama getting info from the Saudis on one of his opponents. Look at the dither everyone got into because of the “Steele Dossier.”

WrightWinger

Today '“quid pro quo” is irrelevant'......two weeks ago it was EVERYTHING. Then President Zelensky tells everyone it didn't happen and the storyline had to be revised, but to what. Well, comrades, let's change it to bribery and throw in extortion and witness intimidation. What about "abuse of power" you might ask? Nah, Mueller wore that one out, too stale to use except as a throwaway by the fake news. Better check with Nancy, this whole play may get cancelled before it can even open. Seems the public just doesn't warm up to farces anymore. What to do, what to do, gotta keep up interest in a holiday week. Oh, I know.
