Placeholder It's Your Call

Towering figure

Sen. Rand Paul came out and talked for President Donald Trump on TV, and Trump looks like he’s about a foot and a half taller than Paul. And Trump’s only 6 feet tall. … Paul’s out here looking like a midget. He looks like he just got out of grade school or something. Maybe he ought to stay home and not speak for Trump. He looks so amateur.

Another one

I see the mayor’s got a new Blue Ribbon Committee. You know, with all these Blue Ribbon Committees, we ought to be able to get something done around here.

A whopper

One caller says former President Barack Obama tripled the markets, but you turn the page and the headline reads “Dow closes at a record high.” That’s reality, not some made-up quote.

Pony up

Well, good news. The jail needs renovation. Come on. Mosaic, why don’t you give them a couple hundred thousand? You should treat the criminals as good as you have the homeless — new shelter, new food kitchen, new clothes.

Good investment

All three of St. Joseph public high schools are inadequate for the educational needs of 2020. These old warehouse are landlocked, with poor handicap accessibility, insufficient parking and substandard athletic facilities. They struggle with aging heating, air condition and roof issues. Building two new state-of-the-art high schools would be the best investment we could make in attracting new families and industry to our community.

Not even close

The only market that almost tripled under Barack Obama was the S&P 500. I wish these people who make these comments would do some fact-checking before they open their mouths. The S&P 500 was the only one that came close to tripling, and it was 200 points short. The other markets didn’t even come close.

Constitution

To “The liberal mind”: When Vice President Joe Biden, President John F. Kennedy, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York were elected to represent the people of their district, they swore to follow the Constitution, and not follow or represent the Catholic church.

Protect them

Trump has managed to turn the “law and order” Republican Party into lawbreakers. There’s a good reason why whistleblowers are protected by law.

All gone

I’d like to ask the caller who said Obama did so great, why he took my retirement money out of the stock market. I lost more under him than ever.

Accolades to President Donald Trump! He will make history as being the first and only president to open the New York City’s Veterans Day Parade on Monday. Trump is scheduled to provide an address at the 100th Annual Opening Ceremony of the parade and will then lay a wreath at the Eternal Light Memorial at Madison Square Park, the New York Post reported. It is customary for the president to be formally invited to the event, but Trump is the first president to accept the invitation. #TRUMP2020!

Who says Congress isn’t getting anything done? This is an answer to prayer...

U.S.—It’s easy to focus on everything going wrong with our country, so much so that we often don’t stop to take a minute and be thankful for the good things our leaders accomplish from time to time

Take the most recent legislation passed by Congress, for instance: as of Tuesday, it is now a federal crime to play Christmas music before Thanksgiving.

pro quid quo--There was no proven connection between the withholding of funds and request for an investigation of Biden's questionable involvement in getting his son Hunter a lucrative position in the Ukraine. The Ukranian president was unaware that money was being held, and the money was released "without" any investigation. No connection--unless you are a liberal with a crooked mind.

Marty_Chuzzlewit

Special envoy to Ukraine Volker testified that the hold up on security assistance was unusual but downplayed its connection to the broader push for investigations, saying he was not aware of any U.S. officials communicating to Ukraine that the aid was being withheld for a specific reason. Indeed, Volker said he was never aware of a reason for the hold up.

aj0201

So Volker confirms the hold. Others confirm it was for political reasons for Trump.

Marty_Chuzzlewit

Well, not exactly. For example, when pressed by Congressman Lee Zeldin, Taylor testified that what he had previously testified to was based ONLY on what he had read in the New York Times.

"Testimony Transcript Shows William Taylor Never Talked To Trump, Wasn’t Even On July 25 Phone Call"

"A top anti-Trump witness for House Democrats admitted he wasn't on the July 25 phone call and had never even spoken with Trump about Ukraine military aid."

"A key Democratic witness against Trump admitted in congressional testimony last month that he was not part of the July 25 phone call between the U.S. and Ukrainian presidents, that he didn’t see a transcript or readout of it until late September when it was declassified and released, and that he has never even spoken to President Donald Trump. William Taylor, the charge d’affairs of the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine, told lawmakers in secret testimony two weeks ago that his opinions about an alleged quid pro quo demanded by Trump were formed largely from conversations with anti-Trump staffers within the diplomatic bureaucracy."

"Star witness? Taylor said in depo he believed reason POTUS wanted Ukraine to investigate Ukrainians' interference w/ the 2016 election & Burisma was just to get dirt on Biden. He later admitted to me (Congressman Zeldin) his sole source of info was...wait for it...The NY Times."

Energy/fossil fuels---The nation runs on energy. At present that requires fossil fuels.

Without them grocery stores will be empty. People would be unable to drive their cars to their jobs. Our homes would be unheated during winter weather. There is, at present, insufficient "green energy" to meet the needs. If you were going to build a new house, you wouldn't sell the old one before the new one was built. The same logic applies here. It will be decades before alternative fuels are sufficient to meet the nation's needs, if ever. Banning the use of fossil fuels prior to such time is abysmally stupid unless you don't eat or heat your home. Let's get real.

All gone---Obama's economic policies---his policies added onerous regulations to legitimate businesses which prevented them from competing in the world market. Many moved out of the country to avoid the regulations. Trump removed the offending regulations and the companies moved back to the states, bringing many, many jobs with them. Thank you, President Trump!

Protect them---whistleblowers are NOT granted anonymity, merely protection of rights. In a court case the defendant always has the right to face their accuser. End of story.

aj0201

That’s just blatantly wrong. The Intelligence Community Whistleblower Protection Act applies here. Anonymity is part of that especially if the person is identified as a CIA officer, which they have been.

In CRIMINAL court, a defendant has the right to face their accuser. Impeachment is not criminal but political.

Marty_Chuzzlewit

No law would be broken by anyone who identifies a whistleblower. However, whistleblowers are protected by law against any retaliation. Several very public figures have ID'd the Ukraine issue whistleblower and none of them have been arrested and charged with a crime.

aj0201

And who confirmed that name?

B4

The fact that Monica is still alive proves that whistleblowers are protected!

JohnQTaxpayer

aj0201

That’s not confirmation.

Marty_Chuzzlewit

Constitution---The denial of Communion had nothing to do with governmental processes. Biden was not in the church in regard to governmental issues, his presence in the church concerned his faith. He was not denied the right to attend church, just the right to receive the Eucharist. The Eucharist is central to the Catholic faith, and not to be received by those not in accordance with the faith (i.e., supporting abortions). Therefore the pastor was correct in refusing communion to someone he knows supports abortions. And yes, Supporting the right to abortion is the same as supporting abortion.

aj0201

I wonder how many priests offered communion at mass after molesting some kid the day before...?

B4

aj - that's not for you to wonder about - that's for God to make that call. Maybe you should wonder how many men you have called dear....? Oh my!

aj0201

What? So the Church shouldn’t worry about the conduct of its elders or overseers? A local pastor is right to refuse the Lords Supper to a congregant but he isn’t subject to the scrutiny from congregants? Hmmm.

aj0201

Well, that’s patently false. Leaders within the Roman Catholic Church knew long before the Church knew. They kept it quiet and some priests continued to be allowed to administer the sacraments of communion and baptism. My concern is that the priest only looked at a political stance but may not know the personal beliefs. They can be different, you know. And why is Bidens belief about abortion more problematic than somebody else’s beliefs about homosexuality or adultery or lying or swindling?

B4

You switched gears there aj. First you said, the "Church" and now it's the "leaders". I hope you know there is a difference. The Holy See is an entity within itself and that must be related to your reference to a political stance. It has been addressing the priest problem in recent years. The doctrine of the "Church" comes into focus when discussing rights and wrongs proving that's the reason why Biden was denied holy communion because he is publicly open about his stance on abortion. Those other issues such an homosexuality, adultery, lying and swindling are all human sins. We're all sinners and can be forgiven if the person's faith is genuine. (yes even homosexuality is a sin which is discussion for another day). These sins don't constitute a statement like supporting abortion does. Maybe it would be helpful for you to read up on Catholic doctrine?

aj0201

The Church = those that abide in Christ. It has not an exclusive description of the Roman Catholic Church. . .

B4

Hahahaha! aj is sputtering - first it's this...oh, no...it's that. What a mixed up guy!

Good investment---(new schools)--The caller says that the current buildings are "inadequate for meeting the educational needs of 2020". Students need the tools to function in the "real world" outside of academia.

JohnQTaxpayer

Worked there 30 years- The ever-changing roster of adminstrators share ONE trait: To separate taxpayers from their hard-earned wages, so they can plan/spend vast sums of money on grand visions that rarely work out, and are sometimes torn out & repurposed later, after some new higher-paid administrator takes over. James Bond1

aj…….……..you're sorta on to something. If you had asked me 25 years ago what was going on with education, I would have said first, we will see grades 1-16 disappear. We would structure subjects in a computer that would and each subject would be organized in a way that each student would be an a level appropriate for them. So in todays language, one student might have 3 grade English, 5 grade Math, 2nd grade history, etc. I really don't know how they would design "facilities" but they sure wouldn't be like the present ones that were right up to date in the 1940s...…….and they haven't been improved since. We would have another turnover in what a teacher was...….....but that's another story. The sad thing is that todays school are almost 100% similar to 1940. The only thing that has changed is the significant change to administrator/teachers salaries, time off, and semi-related activities (that don't add much for students)

Kamala Harris wants to have 8:00am to 6pm school days to give children more time in the classroom. Harris has now proposed a 10-hour school day, which could give children more time in the classroom than with their parents. Just another hairbrained idea from the nutty democrats.

beelog

Idiotic response. The point is, "buildings" do not "teach". Today many teachers feel that their subject is indoctrination and propaganda, ignoring the need for students in the workplace with adequate skills to do a job. A student who has been coddled, taught only "political correctness" and "esteem building" is not prepared for the workplace.

aj0201

Well, I know many many teachers. Some liberals, some conservatives. By far most that I know have a desire to teach kids the subject matter at hand. “Indoctrination” isn’t the agenda. And but not a few anecdotes, you cannot make the case that it is widespread. As for being “coddled,” a parent had much more influence on that then teachers do. Kids spend by far more time with their parents than they do teachers and if they don’t that’s because their parents are absent. Old school houses were once replaced with new ones. Those new ones will some day become the old one. St Joe has, across the board, the oldest buildings of any school district around from my recollection. I heard a guy at lunch the other day talking about “those buildings were fine 40 years ago and their fine now.” We’ll, what about 40 years from now? The funny thing is that the district administration and the school board gets the blame. An elected school board that was elected by the same people that overwhelmingly supported Donald Trump in 2016.

James Bond1

Our school administrators have not noticed that there is a new gadget available. It's called "a computer". With the computer ( in my world) I have access to competence throughout the world...….and I get the finest instructors on the earth. I am not limited 9 months at a time on a "level" with 30 or so others addressing boring materials that do not accelerate my progress. The materials I have are highly narrowed to only materials and depth carefully crafted for me. Today, our educational "people" are so busy going after increased school taxation they don't have time to notice we departed the linear world 1n 1993 and embarked on a totally new expotential existence that accelerates our capability in all new ways. It's sad that today's School Board and related people are playing the same silly games that were going out of our world in the early 1950s.

James Bond1

aj…...You're right...………..Trump is unfit for the office we've had for far too many years He has brought a business-like office to the nation and it is pretty effective. If you used that language, you would be incorrect. He has brought business like management to an academic atmosphere and of course, the problems. The people in the "school world" simply don't function like business. I spent12-15 years with kids in schools and I was exposed to the school-like atmosphere. It is what it is. It "ain't" business like. Accordingly, it is much less efficient/effective. And, it doesn't like to have someone like Trump act like a businessman.

Impeachment----Mark Zaid, attorney for the whistleblower, in 2017 said there would be a "coup" against Trump. He said, "We'll get rid of him, and CNN will help". Do the liberals on this forum support that sort of activity??

aj0201

Not a great question because this is anything but a “coup.”

Do you support a president who pressures foreign governments to help him personally in elections? Do you support a President who calls those who disagree with him “human scum?” Do you support a president who is directing his people to not comply with lawful subpoena? Do you support a president who is attempting to subvert federal whistleblower protection laws? Do you support a President who sent his personal attorney to conduct foreign relations “in defense” of him (Rudy’s own words)?

I'maLumberjack...

Presidents are assigned way too much credit for actions of the economy. It's like saying they are responsible for increases and decreases in crime. Both are affected by a good number of variables.

beelog

Oh, I agree with that. But the fact is, in the case of Trump, his deregulation is directly responsible for much of the growth. Just as the "tech" industry boom was responsible for much of Obama's economy. Presidents "claim" booms and make excuses for downturns.

aj0201

What growth? Unemployment saw its biggest gains under Obama. Trump has yet to match Obama’s highest quarters for GDP. The stock market grew substantially greater during the Obama years. So what growth are you talking about?

To be perfectly honest, Obama couldn't do much of anything let alone spell m-a-r-k-e-t. Disappearing red lines, handle-less shovel ready jobs, cash for clunkers and lying to the public about Obamacare were all part of his dismal failures.

aj0201

In his testimony, TAYLOR was asked about his text "I think it's crazy to withhold security assistance for help with a political

campaign." What did he mean?

TAYLOR: "Because as I understood the reason for jnvestigating Burisma was to cast Vice President Biden in

a bad light."

Marty_Chuzzlewit

However, as Taylor testified further, "security assistance" WAS NOT withheld by the Trump administration. In fact actual military arms were provided compared to only blankets given to the Ukrainians by Obama.

Questioned by Republican lawyer Steve Castor, Taylor called Trump administration policy a "substantial improvement" over what came before.

"Once you joined the administration in Kiev, were you happy with the package of aid?" asked Castor.

"I was happy that we were providing aid," Taylor said. "It could always be more. But I was glad if it was coming. I would've been very unhappy if it didn't come."

Castor: "But the Trump administration had a package of aid to the Ukraine?"

Taylor: "Yes."

Castor: "Including lethal defensive weapons?"

Taylor: "Yes."

Castor: "Financial assistance?"

Taylor: "I was very happy about that."

Castor: "And was that an improvement [over] years prior?"

Taylor: "It was."

Castor: "Was it a substantial improvement?"

Taylor: "It was a substantial improvement, in that this administration provided Javelin anti-tank weapons," Taylor explained. The shoulder-fired missiles, he said, "successfully deter Russians from trying to grab more territory." "They were also a very strong political message that said that Americans were willing to provide more than blankets," Taylor continued. "I mean, that was the previous. And these weapons are serious weapons. They kill Russian tanks. So these were serious weapons. It was a demonstration that we support Ukraine."

aj0201

Wow! That is an extreme case of cherry picking. This part of the testimony had nothing to do with aid being withheld but about a comparison to the aid Obama provided. On page 190 of the transcript, Taylor says this...” “That was my clear understanding, security assistance money would not come until the President [of Ukraine] committed to pursue the investigation.” Asked by House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA) if he’s “aware that a quid pro quo literally means this for that?” Taylor simply replies, “I am.”

Marty_Chuzzlewit

But, the "security assistance" DID come, consisted of actual military defense equipment instead of the blankets Obama sent and came even though Ukraine did not pursue any of the corruption investigations President Trump referenced in his phone call. Ukraine got the aid package and there was no "quid pro quo." Just because Taylor claims to understand that term certainly doesn't mean there was one or that Taylor even thinks there was one. As of next Wednesday we can watch the open hearings long promised by House Democrats when Taylor and Kent are scheduled to testify starting at 0900 CST.

aj0201

It did come. After it was withheld. And it was withheld for personal political gain.

aj0201

“That was my clear understanding...”. He was tune in a little more than your characterization of “what he thinks...”

beelog

He only said he under stands the meaning. I think most of us do by now. There will NOT be an impeachment. The Senate may fail to consider it due to the abusive tactics of the House.

aj0201

Bee, you haven’t read the transcript. You should.

Marty_Chuzzlewit

Yes, "Bee," do read the transcript and you will find that under cross-exam by Congressman Zeldin Taylor admitted he (1) had not listened to the Trump phone call with the Ukraine President; (2) had never consulted with President Trump about the issues discussed in the phone call; and (3) had based his testimony on the issue ONLY on what he had read in the New York Times. That is what you find in the Taylor testimony, but you won't hear it on CNN or in AJ's comments on the transcript.

aj0201

In fact, if you read the testimony, you’ll see several references to the aid being held or that the “hold was released.”

Marty_Chuzzlewit

Consistent with his July 15 phone call, President Trump said he had frozen the money to put pressure on European allies and other countries to contribute more money to Ukraine, not as a condition the Ukrainians investigate Biden. And the funds were released Sept. 11 and there is no on-going investigation of the Bidens, no "quid pro quo." Those are the FACTS of the matter, irrespective of how some, but not all, witnesses are characterizing their impressions.

aj0201

Good job, Marty. I think you just exposed AJ as using Schiff's tactics of "selective" information. Liberals are totally and blissfully unaware of what CNN and MSNBC, ABC, etc. are NOT telling them. A great example is ABC's decision not to expose Epstein because of Clinton's 26 trips to Lolita Land.

aj0201

I’ve read the transcripts. My guess, based on what you’re saying, is that you haven’t. The current testimony is clear that the engagement between Trump and Ukraine was designed to help Trump politically. You’re probably one of those that is still yelling “no collusion” when collusion was on every page of the Mueller report.

JohnQTaxpayer

Epstein's job was procure blackmail-able 'evidence' featuring unsuspecting people-of-influence in a position to help the global elite cabal. The people thought they made it to 'Pleasure Island' like on 'Couples Retreat', but soon found out that hot college co-ed was WAY younger than they were told, or that they are now in danger of being 'outed'. Epstein was 'Mr. Rourke' off 'Fantasy Island', while Bill Clinton was 'Tattoo'... Or vice-versa. [huh][ninja]

JohnQTaxpayer

They found EXTENSIVE electronic surveillance equipment in Epstein's pleasure palace.

All the better to film you with, Mr. Spacey. Didn't a couple of the folks in his now dismissed case die before the trial..? [whistling][huh]

JohnQTaxpayer

Epstein kept trying to 'get' Trump, but was summarily dismissed by Trump, who was too smart to fall for it, & Epstein was banned from 'hanging around' Mar a Lago after getting too friendly with a young girl of inappropriate age. [tongue_smile][huh][thumbdown]

aj0201

If you lost money during the Obama years, you were poorly invested. Huge gains during his years. You must have been invested in coal.

JohnQTaxpayer

Imagine if YOU were a coal miner during the Obama/hiLIARy years... Oh... Their lives & families don't really matter to you guys... They're votes are expendable in an election, Right..? [beam][wink][whistling][tongue_smile]

aj0201

Uhh, they’re actually doing worse now based on the false promises of Trump.

JohnQTaxpayer

I bet if you asked them, they would disagree. [cool]

JohnQTaxpayer

Now GO. Find a single example of a 'disgruntled miner' lamenting the President in a Liberal propaganda publication that you'll count as 'proof'. Run, Forrest! [beam][whistling][tongue_smile]

aj0201

No need. 11 coal companies have filed bankruptcy during the Trump years despite massive regulation rollbacks. Coal consumption is down and keeps going down. That’s just a fact.

JohnQTaxpayer

Thanks to Obama.

aj0201

No. Thanks to the fact the market is changing. Whether or not one believes that coal is the best energy source, the current market is focused on natural gas and renewables.

JohnQTaxpayer

False. Your non-credible 'Leftists-R-Us' sources have misinformed you... again.

James Bond1

I made a buck or two inspite of Obumer……….and I've made a lot more when Donald served up business-like change.

aj0201

Then you’re poorly invested. The growth during the Obama years far outpaces current stock market growth. It’s not even close.

James Bond1

At the end of the 3rd Quarter, I had 32 accounts at 44%. Is that "OK". It isn't much, but the best I could do. Obumer's "market" didn't match anything I've done.

aj0201

Protect them...indeed there is. Imagine if the tables were turned and Obama was screeching all over social media that a whistleblower be “outed” for something alleged against him. Imagine if Obama had asked Saui Arabia or Israel to investigate Mitt Romney and withheld military aid to Israel get it done. Not only would he have already been impeached he would have likely been tried as a traitor, despite any DOJ memo on indicting a sitting President.

beelog

A whistleblower is not entitled to anonymity, merely protection from repercussions. United States law allows any accused to face their accuser. It is a fundamental right. The reason Schiff has not had the whistleblower testify in person is that it would expose the extreme bias of the whistleblower, and disclose Schiff's own association with the whistleblower. Remember, Fox News knows the identity of the whistleblower, and their background, and their consultation with Schiff's office prior to the announcement. Cross-examination of the whistleblower, under oath, will reveal the association and the attempt at a "coup" as the whistleblower's attorney (Mark Zaid) is recorded saying in 2017.

aj0201

Wrong. This isn’t true at all.

Marty_Chuzzlewit

What is true is that no law would be broken by anyone who identifies a whistleblower. However, whistleblowers are protected by law against any retaliation.

aj0201

That’s true. But the name has not been made known to anyone specifically. Trying to “out” this person sets a terrible precedent. Whistleblowers are vital to ensure the government doesn’t engage in illegal or unethical abuses of power. Why would we want to out this person considering that it abolishes any need to keep a future whistleblower anonymous. You weaponize the process. And this becomes another abuse of power for Trump because how is one protected from retaliation if everyone knows who they are?

Marty_Chuzzlewit

"the name has not been made known to anyone specifically".....WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.....it was published last evening on the Schiff committee website....the IDIOTS outed their own guy

aj0201

Not even close....both the S&P 500 and the DJIA rose nearly 3x during the Obama administration. S&P by 2.86 and DJIA 2.84.

aj0201

A whopper, the DJIA made its most extraordinary gains during the Obama administration. Fact.

Colo

That’s Absolutely True Aj.... 6900 up to 18,500 DURING Republicans worst Recession Ever on Record

beelog

So you are saying that Trump should not get credit for bringing jobs back to America (via deregulation) and having the stock market at an all-time high while unemployment is at record lows?

aj0201

He hasn’t.

James Bond1

The DJIA proceeded during 8 years in spite of Obumer. I can't see one single thing attributed to Obumer that influence the stock market...……..and I follow the market abit.

James Bond1

DJIA is an out of date way to evaluate the market. I like to consider what I have available...…...that can be converted to US Currency in 24 hours.

aj0201

Towering figure...height is irrelevant. Rand Paul is acting like an amateur though.

Colo

Rand Paul is following the GOP playbook by asking Vladimir Putin for his advice & approval .... Exactly like Trump always does

JohnQTaxpayer

That's how you can tell if a Leftist feels threatened by you family legacy- They ridicule your intelligence, intentions, & patriotism. So you know you must be doing something right, "There's always more flak when you're right over the target..." [cool][thumbup] Re-elect Rand Paul!![thumbup]

aj0201

95% of your posts are ridicule.

JohnQTaxpayer

See the above comment about ridicule. [innocent][cool]

JohnQTaxpayer

Re-Elect Josh Hawley!! [thumbup][thumbup][cool]

JohnQTaxpayer

Colo for dog-catcher!! [thumbup][cool]

beelog

Of course a dogcatcher might have to deal with a Republican person. Better to stay in his/her "safe room" and color with crayons.
