Looks terrible

Thank you to the mayor for addressing the homeless sleeping on the streets and under the bridges situation. … I do not consider myself a heartless person. I am, in fact, a very caring person but I do not care to travel the streets of St. Joseph seeing people sleeping and living on or near our roads. Also, it looks terrible for all the folks traveling into our city to visit, shop and eat to see people begging at every entrance into our city.

Red means stop

When is the St. Joseph Police Department going to get out of their building down there and get back on the streets and stop these people from running red lights, causing accidents?

Can’t afford it

According to local media, our kids are asking school board members, “Why don’t we have schools like they have in Liberty and Parkville high schools?” The people in St. Joe don’t make the money those people make down there. We can’t afford those kinds of schools.

Porous

The Kansas City Chiefs had a terrible defense all season long. No pass defense, no defensive line. The fans deserve better.

Cut costs

I see the school board estimates the new high schools will cost $190 million. I don’t know where they think they’re going to get that money, because taxpayers in St. Joe will not stand for it. It seems to me you could spend a fraction of that and have three very fine high schools.

Wage factor

The school board seems to want to compare us to districts down south around Kansas City, how much better their schools are and how much money we’re not spending for schools. Take the average family income. It’s about one-third to a half more down south than it is here. We just can’t afford it.

Both sides

In reply to “Stand up to evil”: Sir or ma’am, President Donald Trump said there are fine people on both sides of the rallies at Charlottesville.

Free housing

Do not let the liberals take over St. Joseph. They are now proposing free housing for homeless people. This will be like feeding stray cats — you won’t be able to get rid of them.

“ Former national security adviser John Bolton derided President Donald Trump’s daughter and son-in-law during a private speech last week and suggested his former boss’ approach to U.S. policy on Turkey is motivated by personal or financial interests, several people who were present for the remarks told NBC News.

According to six people who were there, Bolton also questioned the merits of Trump applying his business acumen to foreign policy, saying such issues can’t be approached like the win-or-lose edict that drives real estate deals: When one deal doesn’t work, you move on to the next”

What we are witnessing in West Coast is the beginning of a descent into Third World status. The homeless suffer from mental illness. They also suffer from physical diseases not seen since the middle ages. They contribute nothing, but take anything they can get their hands on. Their excrement ends up adding to the pollution in the ocean. The west coast is deteriorating due to liberal policies. This country was not founded to provide a feeding trough for those unwilling to contribute. It was created to create an atmosphere where responsible people could work and earn a living for themselves and their families. It was a land of opportunity for those willing to contribute.

aj0201

So you’re wanting those with mental illness to pull themselves up and magically become productive members of society? I know, you won’t/can’t answer, preferring to think you’re “rattling cages.” But are you capable of following your own logic?

Find that hard to believe. One that your son-in-law if true what was the job and how long at a stop light does some one have to interact with someone outside of his car. And if it happened the person offered the job realized that your son-in-law was full of it the same as you. Also are you sure you have a son-in-law? And he is not bothered what happened to her growing up?

Free housing--where is the concern for the hard-working taxpayers who still struggle from month to month with bills but are expected to "pony up" to pay for services for those who don't work??

munchman1

Hard to have much concern for one who has a job and can afford from his wages to pay his bills. What about the single mother who works a 40 hour week or more for an insufficient minimum wage who needs help providing the bare necessities for her children? Where is your concern there beyond the point that we all must help her with out taxes. I would rather provide from my taxes for her need than to aid the munitions industries with our tax dollars to provide weapons to perpetuate wars with weapons provided by foreign aid. Even an atheist con follow the teaching of christ better than a CHINO like yourself.

Healthcare---the main purpose of the ACA was to provide preventative care to the poor. The poor did not take advantage. They continued to receive care in emergency rooms which costs considerably more than office calls. Taking care of the poor and homeless presumes they will take responsibility. That rarely happens.

Lack of experience....? I keep hearing this. Explain what you mean by this. For instance, several people serve in the school board but aren’t teachers or school administrators. I knew a woman on the board of the YMCA who wasn’t young, a man, nor Christian. What experience would you expect from someone sitting on a board of directors?

jdw64485

Someone who has a little common since. Someone who can think outside the box. Someone who is willing to listen to others that's not on the board they serve. Before making a decision on the issue at hand

aj0201

JohnQTaxpayer

aj0201

He “had” to get a divorce? Says who?

munchman1

Sound like Biden's son to me. If you know specifics to the contrary please elaborate.

munchman1

Your description of lack of experience reminds be of Ivanka and Jared. Bidens son made only a salary that affects you and I how? Inexperience in white house diplomacy or any thing that is important to the safety and security of us all affects us all. As usual your priorities are as screwed up as the political tenets of conservatism.

beelog

Cut costs---To get support, the public deserves to see better test scores than we currently see. A building cannot improve test scores. Spending huge sums of tax dollars would be rewarding poor performance.

munchman1

If that were true to reality then listening to you would be listening to ignorance.

aj0201

Both sides, the evening before the big clash in Charlottesville, there were young men supposedly protesting the removal of a confederate statue. The confusing part is this protest of the statue at some point included marching and chanting “Jews will not replace us,” which had nothing to do with a statue and really showed the true spirit of who/what they were protesting. I have yet to hear from a single person who said “I was there for the statue, but once they started their bigoted chant, I left them and continued my vigil for the statue.”

Any defense of this group is wrong. There is no defense and no justification for who they are and what they stand for. And there is no defense of those who showed up to counter protest who decided to resort to violence. But that doesn’t encapsulate all those who counter protested. The young woman who was killed, for example. There is 0 indication that she was involved in violence in any way. There is only one side of this that had “fine people” among them.

aj0201

Can’t afford it. Let’s say you’re a business owner and you’re looking to expand your business to a new locale. What is there about St Joseph that would want you to expand here? What about this town would make it to where you would want to move some of your employees here to start a new life? Or if you worked for the Chamber, what would you use as a selling point for this community?

munchman1

Free housing do you want to starve the homeless like you do stray cats. You Must be a new breed evangelical christian. You know those who preach one thing and do another.

justanotherworkingman

That was me and I am not evangelical nor even Christian. One only has to look as far as San Francisco, Seattle or Austin to see what this policy of allowing the homeless to set up in any city soon looks like. IMPACT OF FERAL CATS ON THE ENVIRONMENT

In a September 2004 article, "U.S. Faces Growing Feral Cat Problem,” National Geographic takes a realistic look at the impact of millions of feral cats on the environment, and states that, “[S]ome experts estimate that each year domestic and feral cats kill hundreds of millions of birds, and more than a billion small mammals, such as rabbits, squirrels, and chipmunks.”

Ron Jurek, a wildlife biologist for the California Department of Fish and Game, discusses the impact of feral and free-roaming cats, and estimates, ”In urban areas there are hundreds of cats per square mile—more cats than nature can support.”

National Geographic acknowledges the good intentions of TNR, stating, “Thousands of volunteers and animal welfare groups throughout the country stepped forward in the early 1990s to control the wild cat population through mass sterilization programs.”

Drs. Torrey and Yolken told CNN that studies in California have shown that cats deposit an estimated 1.2 million tons of cat poop into the environment each year.

Camping is an outdoor activity involving overnight stays away from home in a shelter, such as a tent or a recreational vehicle. Typically participants leave developed areas to spend time outdoors in more natural ones in pursuit of activities providing them enjoyment. To be regarded as "camping" a minimum of one night is spent outdoors.

The homeless person under HWY 36 and The Belt wasn't camping. It was a residence.

justanotherworkingman

I've got news for you. As late as yesterday morning he was still there. Only this time he's sitting up covered by a blanket. Nobody has any real idea who he is, where he's from or what his true story is because he's said different things when asked and won't provide proof of identity. The fact that this person is being allowed to stay in such close proximity to a day care center should be cause for concern for anyone.
