Offense

Aaron Murray continues to show improvement every day. Today, he hit Da’Ron Brown on a go route for a 70-yard touchdown in the final play of 11-on-11 drills. The preseason will be key for the second-year player as he tries to chase down Chase Daniel for the No. 2 quarterback spot.

Receiver Jeremy Maclin and quarterback Alex Smith are continuing to gel, and Maclin says they are right where they need to be.

Maclin pulled in a couple of highlight catches in 7-on-7 drills and looks like $55 million.

The offensesive line is set…for the first preseason game, anyway. Eric Fisher, Ben Grubbs, Mitch Morse, Zach Fulton and Jeff Allen will start preseason game No. 1 against the Cardinals on Saturday, according to head coach Andy Reid.

The defense

The defensive highlight of the day was Eric Berry picking off a pass and running it back for a touchdown in front of screaming fans. Berry then threw the football into the stands after crossing the goal line.

After practice, Reid announced that Berry will play against Arizona.

The linebacking corps took a couple of blows today with Josh Mauga (heel) and D.J. Alexander (ankle) leaving practice, leaving UDFA rookie Justin March to get time with the ones.

The rest

Dee Ford (concussion), Albert Wilson (throat ailment) and Mike Catapano (groin) sat out today but Reid says they are progressing.

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon paid the campus of Missouri Western a visit, sitting on the sidelines for the second half of practice.
