VonKaenel, Mary E. 1925-2018

SAVANNAH, Mo. Mary Ellen VonKaenel, 93, Savannah, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018, at LaVerna Village, in Savannah.

She was born on February 11, 1925, to Charles Frederick and Alta Mae (Miller) Henderson, in Plattsburg, Missouri.

She married Donald VonKaenel on September 30, 1950, in Amazonia, Missouri, and he preceded her in death on November 13, 1986.

She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was very caring, generous and would lend a hand to anyone. Those qualities showed while she worked over 40 years for the Laverna Heights and Laverna Village.

While at Laverna Village she thoroughly enjoyed a good game of bingo and flyswatter volleyball. She will be dearly missed.

Mary is survived by: two grandchildren, Tabatha James, of St. Joseph, and Rick Wells, of St. Joseph; one great-grandson, Tyler Huffer, of Savannah; and one sister, Donna (Jim) Cole, of St. Joseph.

Mary was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; two children, Donald VonKaenel Jr. and Sandra K. Sollars; two brothers; and five sisters.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home, in Savannah.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home, in Savannah.

Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery, Amazonia.
