Ulmer, Mary L. 1933-2019

Mary Lynn Ulmer, 86, St. Joseph, passed away Oct. 5, 2019 at a local healthcare facility surrounded by her family.

She was born Oct. 1, 1933 in New Iberia, Louisiana, to George and Ozite (Broussard) DeRouen.

After growing up in New Iberia, Louisiana, Mary Lynn met and fell in love with Edward Chambers; she moved to St. Joseph, in 1955 to begin their journey as husband and wife. Although the two divorced in 1970, they remained life-long friends.

Mary Lynn was an extremely proud mother and grandmother. She was a person of strong faith and a long-time member of St. Mary's Parish. She worked at Snow White Restaurant for 18 years, Heartland Health Systems for 20 years, and the St. Joseph Doll Museum for 10 years. Mary Lynn discovered her passion for collecting porcelain dolls while working at the doll museum.

She had many friends and cherished the cards and letters she received from each and every one of them.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; and numerous brothers and sisters.

Survivors include: her children, Steven Chambers, Cherrie DeShon (Mark), Gary Chambers (Kathy), Kathryn Richardson, Jennifer Callow (Eric); granddaughters, Kate Henderson (Mark), Emily Bravo (Billy), Holly Stephens (Cory), Olivia Callow; great-granddaughters, Ava, Emma, and Mia Bravo, Eden and Violet Henderson; sisters, Rita Prinsen (Jim), Rose House; brothers, George Melvin DeRouen, Willis DeRouen (Joann), Michael DeRouen (Jeanette), Thomas DeRouen (Margie); many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Memorial Mass 11 a.m. Saturday, St. Mary Parish. The family will gather with friends 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Simplify Cremations & Funerals.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Mary Lynn's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Mary Parish.
