Summa, Virginia L. 1929-2019

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Virginia Lee Summa, Maryville, died at her home Friday, Feb. 22, 2019.

She was born in Maryville on Jan. 15, 1929, to Frank Herman and Emma Jane (Breedlove) Wilmes.

On July 28, 1948, Virginia married John Lester Summa, in Maryville. He preceded her in death Feb. 29, 2000.

A 1946 graduate of Maryville High School, she also attended Northwest Missouri State College. She had worked at Della's Style Shop and Clara's Fashions before joining the work force in 1969 at Nodaway Valley Bank, and retiring from there in 1991.

Virginia was a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, and was a member of many organizations: Sigma Sigma Sigma Alumni, P.E.O. Chapter KP, St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary, Nodaway County Historical Society, St. Gregory's Guild and St. Therese's Circle.

Virginia loved cooking and entertaining (especially family), making quilts for grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and working outside with the flowers.

Preceding her in death were: her parents; husband; son, Doug Summa; sisters, Maxine Moran and Emma Carroll; and brothers, William J. Frank and Robert Joseph Wilmes.

Surviving Virginia are: daughters, Becky (John) Sullivan, Leawood, Kansas, Valerie (Jim) Riddle, Kansas City, Missouri, Joni (Mike) Nelson, Keller, Texas, Gina (Tim) Mackey, Maryville; son, Kevin (Carol) Summa, Kansas City; 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Parish Rosary will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, followed by a visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, also at the church.

The family suggests donations to St. Gregory's Church or St. Gregory's School, both in Maryville.
