Ora M. Rhoads

 

SAVANNAH, Mo. — Ora M. Rhoads, 89, of Bolckow, Mo., passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the King City Manor in King City, Mo.

Born July 2, 1921 in Bolckow, she was the daughter of Floyd Wesley and Lillie (Hilton) Sybert.

She was married to George Rhoads, Sr. in 1946 and they were later divorced.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; three brothers, Manley, Olen “Jeff” and Oba Sybert; and four sisters, Opal Burchett, Oma Miller, Nancy Fitzpatrick, and Mary Alsup.

Surviving are one daughter, Judy Flora and husband, John of Bolckow, Mo.; two sons: Jerry Rhoads and wife, Barb of Bolckow, Mo.; and George Rhoads, Jr. and wife, Joan of Pittsburgh, Mo.; one sister, Ola June of Savannah, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Opal Currier of Lexington, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rhoads attended public country schools north of Fillmore, Mo. From 1969 to 1987 she owned and operated Country Kitchen restaurant in Savannah. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening and canning, reading, and baking for her grandchildren and family. She was of the Christian faith.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel in Savannah, Mo., with her nephew Keith Mowry officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery at Bolckow, Mo. Visitation is one hour prior to services on Saturday with the family receiving friends at that time. Friends may call Saturday morning after 8 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to SSM Hospice of Maryville or to the donor’s choice.
