SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Ronnie Mercer, 74, Springfield, formerly of Stanberry, Missouri, passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, at St. Luke's Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri.

He was born on Oct. 7, 1944, in Maryville, Missouri, the son of Dale Curtis and Dottie (Newman) Mercer.

He was raised by Leo Holmes after the untimely death of his father in World War II shortly after Ronnie was born.

On Aug. 18, 1962, he married Sharon Sager in Stanberry. She survives of the home.

Ronnie was a graduate of Stanberry High School in 1962, and went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree at Northwest Missouri State University.

He was the county clerk for Gentry County and earlier in life had worked in banking in Ravenwood and Pattonsburg.

He was a member of the Alanthus Church of Christ and the Albany Rotary Club.

He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed antiques and garage sales.

He was also preceded in death by: his mother; step-father, Leo Holmes; grandfather, Fred "Pops" Newman, who helped raise him; and a brother, Rick Holmes.

In addition to his wife, Sharon, Ronnie is survived by: three sons, Doug (Lori) Mercer, Lenexa, Kansas, Todd Mercer, Springfield and Bryan Mercer, Leawood, Kansas; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, at Roberson Funeral Home, Stanberry.

Burial will follow in Jennings Cemetery, Alanthus Grove, Missouri.

Open visitation will be held from 10 to 2 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.

There is no scheduled family visitation.
