Harry Edwin Johnson, 88, of St. Joseph, passed away at Mosaic Life Care on Thursday, October 12, 2017.
Harry was born April 11, 1929, in Graham, Missouri, to the late John and Elaine (Benson) Johnson. He was a graduate of Graham High School.
Mr. Johnson served his country as a corporal in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
After his honorable discharge, he married Effie LaVonne Wilson on December 4, 1953, in St. Joseph; they celebrated 59 years of marriage before her passing in 2013.
Harry retired as a truck driver from Affiliated Foods after 36 years.
Harry was confirmed at United Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Oddfellows, the Teamsters Union and the American Legion, Post #0359. He was also a leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He loved farming, cattle, gardening and most of all his grandkids.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by: his wife, Effie; his parents; five sisters and two brothers.
Harry is survived by: daughter, Jennifer (Gary) Bowland, Savannah, Missouri; sons, H. Steven (Cathy) Johnson, Clarksdale, Missouri and Mark (Cathy) Johnson, Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren, Tina (John) Sturm, Jackie Butler, Jamie (Doug) Nigh, Brian (Heather) Johnson, Kyle (Kristin) Johnson, Meaghan (Trevor) Walker and Katie Johnson; great-grandchildren, Hayley Butler, Taylor and Cody Nigh, Kalyn Sturm, Emma Haselrick and Isabella Johnson, Kealy and Kimber Johnson.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, October 20, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, in St. Joseph.
Interment at Savannah Cemetery.
Visitation beginning after 12 p.m. Thursday, October 19, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph, with the family receiving friends between 6-8 p.m.
