Wandfluh Jr., Herbert C. 1934-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Herbert C. Wandfluh Jr., 91, St. Joseph, passed away Monday June 2, 2025. He was born May 21, 1934, in St. Joseph, to Herbert and Wilma (Eisminger) Wandfluh. After graduating from high school, Herbert joined the military and proudly served his country in the Air Guard.
Herbert married Sondra Jeanne O’Dell on Sept. 26, 1954. She survives of the home.
After the military, he was always self-employed. His first business was Wandfluh Produce, then he was a farmer and a school bus driver.
Herbert enjoyed staying active and being outside. He loved boating on the river and at the Lake of the Ozarks, playing softball in his earlier years, daily walks, and weekly swimming at the YMCA and MWSU.
He also had an adventurous side, earning his pilot’s license and flying, going on yearly vacations and trips to Branson and Florida, as well as playing his grand piano and looking for treasures that others had discarded.
He was passionately involved in his church, Ashland United Methodist, and served his community by volunteering for Meals on Wheels.
Herbert was a hardworking, loving husband and family man, dedicated provider, man of faith and savvy businessman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Clarence and Gertrude O’Dell; and brother, Donald Dean Wandfluh.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Sondra; five children, Cheryl Bayless, Karla Vey (Jim Hausman), Pamela Esely, Herbert Wandfluh III (Tammy Carpenter Wandfluh), and Lucinda Wandfluh; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life 11 a.m. Monday, June 16, Ashland United Methodist Church. The family suggests memorial contributions to Three Oaks Hospice, St. Joseph.
