Ruth Marion, teacher to hundreds, a mentor to many and friend to all, passed away, May 27, 2024, in St. Joseph. She was 82.

Ruth was born Oct. 7, 1941, to Esther and Vernon Marion, in St. Joseph. She graduated from Central High School in 1959 and went on to earn her Bachelors in Psychology at Missouri Western State College. She was a member of South Park United Methodist Church.

She worked for the St. Joseph School District and Elwood School District. She loved helping people and held positions at Family Guidance Center and Wyatt Park Baptist Church.

Ruth had many hobbies through the years, sewing and gardening being some of her favorites. But nothing compared to the time she got to spend with all her grandchildren.

In her later years she fell in love with rescuing cats, every feline friend had their own unique name, she would go out to garden and they would follow her through the yard, meowing as they went. Spending time with them became one of her favorite past times.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by: her children, Gail D. Marion and Steve M. Flores; grandchildren, Shannon Ellis, Marla Stubbs, Jessica and Alicia Flores; and sister, Frances L. Mitchell.

Celebration of life to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Susan G. Komen, Breast Cancer Foundation. As published in the St. Joseph News-Press.
