A St. Joseph man is facing several felony charges after allegedly stealing a truck from the Fillmore, Missouri, area and leading multiple police agencies on a two-county chase.

Jonathan Smith, 22, was charged on Wednesday in Andrew County with two counts of resisting arrest, one count of stealing, one count of tampering, one count of property damage, one count of assault and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

According to Missouri’s Casenet system, Smith is being held on a $20,000 bond, at least half of which must be paid in cash. Should he be released on bond, Smith will be under house arrest.

Andrew County Sheriff Bryan Atkins previously told News-Press NOW that police began following Smith after a truck was reported stolen around 10 a.m. Tuesday. Atkins said the pursuit reached speeds above 65 mph and that Smith suffered non-life-threatening injuries when the truck crashed over an embankment near the Andrew/Buchanan county line.
