St. Joseph residents Andy and Tina Schneider and their children have been chosen as the Buchanan County Farm Family of the Year.
The Schneiders were honored on Aug. 12 at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, Missouri. The event was part of the 61st annual Farm Family Day held on the fairgrounds and showcases farmers’ impact to the state economy and its heritage.
Buchanan County University Extension and the Buchanan County Farm Bureau selected the Schneiders as this year’s representatives. The family includes their children: Alissa, 9, and Blake, 7.
The family runs a corn, soybean and beef cattle operation, with Andrew growing up assisting his father on the family farm. He began farming full-time in 2014.
The fair sets aside a day to recognize farm families from across Missouri who are active in their communities, involved in agriculture, and/or participate in local outreach and Extension programs such as 4-H or the Future Farmers of America.
The Missouri Farm Bureau; Missouri Department of Agriculture; Missouri State Fair Commission; the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources; and MU Extension and Engagement. Nearly 500 people from 115 farm families were honored.
