The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating a workplace fatality that occurred Monday at a St. Joseph company.

OSHA officials confirmed that the agency was called to investigate a death at Ag Processing and is opening the inquiry with the company and a contractor, Skinner Tank Company of Yale, Oklahoma. The company operates a soybean processing facility at 900 S.W. Lower Lake Road.

Police have identified the victim as Tony Wilson, 56, who was a Skinner employee. No details have been released about how the fatality happened.

Preliminary information from OSHA indicated Wilson fell from the top of a tank that was approximately 50 feet in circumference and about 57 feet high.

OSHA has six months to complete the investigation, issue citations and propose penalties if it finds that any violations of safety and/or health standards contributed to the death.

The agency conducted an inspection at the facility in November 2017, with no citations being issued.

Matt Caswell, AGP’s vice president-corporate relations and government affairs, said the company has no comment on the incident.
