A new Dunkin’ location is coming to St. Joseph.
The doughnut and coffee shop will be built at 1106 S. Belt Highway, on the site of the former Sara Lee Bakery Outlet, which closed in July 2018.
“Construction will start any day, and we hope to be open by the end of the year,” franchise co-owner David Holland said.
Holland also co-owns the existing Dunkin’ location at 1206 N. Belt Highway. Unlike the North Belt location, the new shop will be drive-thru only and not offer indoor seating.
“We picked the location because it’s at a busy intersection near Mitchell Avenue and will be great for drive-thru,” Holland said.
Dunkin’ dropped the “Donuts” from its name in September 2018 as part of a wider brand makeover. In 2013, Dunkin’ started calling itself a beverage company when drink sales overtook those of baked goods. Still, doughnuts and other baked goods are part of Dunkin’s lineup.
“We will still have doughnuts and all the same drinks people are used to (at the new location),” Holland said.
Holland and his business partners, Doug Hutton and David Riggs, took ownership of the franchise in January 2012 and opened the North Belt Dunkin’ in November of that year. The previous franchise owner closed his location in December 2011.
On Monday, Dunkin’ announced the return of its fall menu starting Aug. 21. The lineup includes the new Cinnamon Sugar Pumpkin Signature Latte and Apple Cider Donuts. Pumpkin-flavored coffees are making a return from previous years.
