PLATTE COUNTY — A 32-year-old Nebraska man was killed Saturday after the vehicle he was driving overturned off Interstate 29.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Chad W. Keene, of Omaha, Nebraska, died in the accident. His wife, 29-year-old Courtney W. Keene, was a passenger. She was seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to North Kansas City Hospital.
The patrol’s report said Keene was driving a 2003 Chevrolet southbound on the highway when the wreck happened at 3:28 p.m.
The vehicle overcorrected and traveled off the roadway, becoming airborne and overturning multiple times. It then struck several trees before landing on its wheels, the report added. Keene, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected.
A patrol major crash investigation unit was summoned, and the Platte County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
The patrol’s Troop A office in Lee’s Summit said this was already the 13th fatal crash in its jurisdiction for 2017.
