A man is dead after a reported stabbing on the 800 block of South 23rd Street.
Emergency officials were called to the scene of the incident around 5 p.m. Thursday. The victim was described as a young white male in his 20s.
The individual was seen walking out of the house, where he fell to the ground and appeared unresponsive.
When paramedics arrived he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A St. Joseph Police Department officer confirmed it was a stabbing early on, but Commander Eric Protzman said they were not releasing cause of death and foul play was involved.
There are no suspects in custody at this time, but officers are looking for certain individuals seen in the area at the time of the incident.
Police have ruled the investigation as a homicide.
Commander Protzman talked about the tragedy that surrounds this type of situation.
“Nobody deserves to die. No matter what and whenever you have someone that is killed, it’s a tragic incident, no matter how it happens,” Protzman said. “There’s nothing in life that’s that serious to kill somebody over, but apparently someone decided they wanted to take that avenue this evening.”
Police said they will release the name of the victim once an autopsy is performed and next of kin have been notified.
