The driver of a Ford SUV that was involved in an accident near 1700 Dewey Avenue on Sunday checks the damage on his vehicle. The other vehicle involved fled the scene.

A crash at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Dewey Avenue sent a 28-year-old female to the hospital with minor injuries on Sunday afternoon.

According to Officer Lauren Houston of the St. Joseph Police Department, one vehicle fled from the scene but may have left the driver behind.

“Two vehicles crashed at the intersection, one of them left before we got here and supposedly the driver’s still here,” Houston said.

A passenger of the fleeing vehicle may have taken over control and left the accident with the original driver there.

Police are searching for that vehicle, but Houston said a description was not yet available.

“We don’t have a lot of information yet,” Houston said.

The driver of the vehicle that remained on the scene was uninjured and even helped neighbors sweep glass from the crash out of the street.
