Owners of a new dog-care facility hope to become a training resource in St. Joseph.

Pup Pup K9 Training & Grooming opened at the beginning of August at 1106 N. Fourth St. The facility offers a dog day care, grooming and a variety of classes.

Opening a grooming and training facility had been a long-standing dream of owner Julie Demuth.

“It’s a dream come true that I finally got something I’ve always wanted,” Demuth said.

Demuth opened Pup Pup K9 with the support and input from Monica Davis, a professional dog trainer and member of the International Association of Canine Professionals’ board of directors. Davis has owned her own facilities in the past and now, semi-retired, is Pup Pup K9’s general manager.

“(Davis) taught me how to groom dogs and that’s where I started,” Demuth said. “Then I went from there.”

Starting in mid-September, Pup Pup K9 will widen the portfolio of classes it offers, including socialization classes for puppies and older dogs, basic and advanced lessons as well as e-collar work and therapy and service dog work.

“Any kind of dog training anybody wants, one of us can cover what they need,” Davis said.

She added that any dog and owner can benefit from taking classes together.

“Even if someone goes to bad trainers, hopefully they can get something out of it,” Davis said. “Any training is better than none.”

Davis is the only IACP certified advanced dog trainer listed in St. Joseph. A well-adjusted dog makes everyone happier, according to Demuth.

“It speaks for itself, just watching the owners interact with their dogs and be able to play with their dogs because their dog is well minded,” Demuth said. “It makes us happy.”

Pup Pup K9 Grooming & Training will host an open house and ribbon-cutting in October. For more information, visit the facility’s Facebook page.
