Two people, including a child, were killed early Tuesday in an accident involving a semi on U.S. Highway 36 in Cameron, Missouri.
The accident happened at about 3:20 a.m. as a 2009 Honda CRV driven by Desari P. Lathrop, 29 of Kansas City, Missouri, and a semi driven by Kenneth G. Eldridge 59, of Petaluma, California, were traveling west on Highway 36, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report. The semi stopped at a red light at Bob F. Griffin Road and then began traveling west on Highway 36 when the Honda struck its towed unit, the patrol report said. While the semi driver was able to come to a controlled stop, the Honda overturned and came to a rest on its top, according to the report.
Lathrop, who the patrol report said was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the Honda. She and a 9-year-old boy who was in her car, Savion E. Spearman-Lathrop, also of Kansas City, were pronounced dead at the scene. The boy also was not wearing a seat belt, according to the patrol report.
A third occupant of the Honda, Ariana A. Hill, 3, of Kansas City, suffered minor injuries in the accident and was taken to Cameron Regional Medical Center. According to the patrol report, she was restrained by a safety device.
Eldridge, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the accident.
