A 62-year-old St. Joseph man escaped serious injury after the ultralight plane he piloted crashed into a field in southern Buchanan County on Monday night.

Around 6:15 p.m., emergency responders were called to 10400 Missouri Route JJ in reference to a crash of an ultralight plane. When officers arrived, the man had already walked away from the plane wreckage in the rural cornfield and was back at a plane hangar.

Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department Deputy D.J. King said the man was visibly shaken and had a laceration to his head, but did not suffer any life-threatening injuries. The man was later transported by private vehicle for medical treatment.
