Firefighters battle a large structure fire by ladder truck at the Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph building Sunday morning. The upper portions of the building continued to smoke for hours as fire crews began defensive procedures to keep the fire from spreading.

Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph plans to rebuild from a fire that tore through its planned office space at 1123 S. 10th St.

The nonprofit agency will continue to serve people while it rebuilds from a fire that started on the second floor of a former UMB Bank branch and caused the partial collapse of the roof. Firefighters battled the blaze for more than five hours Sunday.
