A St. Joseph couple have been charged with felony neglect of a child.
Jean L. Mangus and Scottie R. Briner, both 29, were charged Monday after Buchanan County deputies investigated a medical call for the couple’s 3-year-old daughter.
The two told the deputies and paramedics the girl had been outside until 4:30 in the morning, and that she had possibly ingested something because she was acting funny.
The child was then taken to Mosaic Life Care’s emergency room, and then by air ambulance to Children’s Mercy Hospital where she tested positive for methamphetamine and oxycodone.
The Buchanan County Children’s Division has removed the child from her home on King Hill Road due to filth and bug infestation.
While Mangus and Briner have been charged, as of Monday evening they were not in police custody.
