The City of St. Joseph Animal Control and Rescue shelter is reporting record numbers of animal residents.

Due to overcrowding, the Friends of the Animal Shelter of St. Joseph is holding a “Pre-Black Friday” half-off special for dogs and cats adopted Saturday, Nov. 19.

Shelter hours are 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The shelter is located at 701 Lower Lake Road.

To adopt a shelter dog or cat, an application must be completed. It can be found on the city website, www.stjoemo.info. Click on “Health Department” under “Government.” Use the left hand column to go to the “Animal Control & Rescue” page.

The application must be submitted online, and there is a kiosk at the shelter to complete the form as soon as you find the pet you wish to adopt.

The fees associated with adopting a pet vary, depending upon the size of the animal and whether it is spayed or neutered.

The Friends of the Animal Shelter of St. Joseph’s Facebook page has photos of available animals, as does the animal shelter web page, stjoemo.animalshelternet.com/adoption_search_a.cfm.
