The Kansas City Nursing News, with both Kansas and Missouri editions, is ending publication after more than 22 years serving nursing professionals in the region.

“We wish to thank all of our loyal readers and advertisers, along with the many hundreds of people and organizations that have contributed content or been sources for stories that have appeared in the publication over these many years,” said Publisher Sandy Nelson.

“The decision to cease publication was not taken lightly. We always took pride in being a source of helpful information for nurses and related health care professionals who were interested in advancing their careers. However, the economics of a weekly printed product have changed, in part due to changes in health care employment and recruitment trends.”

Nursing News was launched in 1993 and was a part of Sun Publications, a division of American Community Newspapers LLC, when that company was sold in 2005 to News-Press & Gazette Co. of St. Joseph, Mo. The circulation recently was about 11,500 copies weekly.

Ms. Nelson said the publication’s two longstanding employees, Linda Friedel, news editor, and Peggy Flora, advertising representative, both have been offered severance packages. Advertisers or others with questions may contact Nursing News, c/o NPG Newspapers, 121 S. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071 or contact Ms. Nelson by phone at (816) 454-9660.
