Missouri Western junior Shi Qing Ong is one of 12 teams and 12 individuals who will tee it up for the start of the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship beginning Wednesday.
The four-round, 72-hole tournament will take place through Saturday at Bay Oaks in Houston, Texas. Ong qualified for the tournament by winning a one-hole, three-player playoff at last week’s NCAA Central Regional in St. Charles, Missouri.
It’s the third straight year Western has been represented in the national championships, having qualified as a team two years ago and sending Chong Yong as an individual last year.
Ong, a former MIAA Freshman of the Year, is the reigning MIAA Individual Champion and MIAA Women’s Golfer of the Year.Brandon Zenner can be reached at brandon.zenner@newspressnow.com. Follow him on Twitter: @NPNowZenner.
