The owners of a new clothing store are hoping to fill a void in St. Joseph.

Mommy Towne is opening at the Woodlawn Shopping Center at 2235 N. Belt Highway. The store will carry gently used maternity and infant and toddler clothing, with clothing for children up to 24 months old.

“It’s personal for me,” said co-owner Amanda Gentry.

Gentry said she was faced with not having child care while she worked and began looking at options that would allow her to spend more time with her kids.

“I wanted to be there for my kids,” she said. “I began researching franchises.”

When she found Mommy Towne, she knew she had stumbled upon something great and was able to do it without being a part of a franchise. The St. Joseph Mommy Towne is independently owned and operated.

“I’ve been pregnant twice and there wasn’t a lot of choices (for clothing) and there wasn’t anything else like it in town,” Gentry said.

The space, which was formerly Abba Pets, is being remodeled and is expected to open in April. In the next month or so, the store will begin buying inventory from customers.

Gentry said customers can come by the store at that point to sell their gently used maternity and infant and toddler clothing. She hopes to keep the community informed of their progress via social media, including Facebook.
