I'm currently addicted to word-search puzzles. They are a great way to unwind at the end of the day. They allow my brain to shut down all the noise of the day and focus only on letters. When I finish my puzzle, it's easier to fall asleep.

I'm not a huge snacker, but sometimes I just need a little pick-me-up. At first, I was going to just tell you my little secret of putting bite-sized Charleston Chews in the freezer and grabbing a couple when I want a quick bit of chocolate (you're welcome), but then I realized May 13 to 19 is Food Allergy Awareness Week, so I have something else to recommend. I recently found Enjoy Life Crispy Grain & Seed bars at Hy-Vee, in the Health Market aisle. Being allergic to nuts usually means I can't have most granola bars, so these “allergy-friendly” snacks were a welcome sight. They are also free of wheat, dairy, soy and a host of other allergens. I love the cranberry orange ones, but they come in a number of flavors. A box of five is less than $5.

Recently, I rediscovered an app called Think Dirty. The app lets you search hygiene and makeup products to determine if they contain harmful ingredients. The products are rated on a scale from 0 to 10 and the app also provides a list of the ingredients and how harmful they can be to our long-term health. After looking up all the products in my current routine, as I finish them my goal is to replace them with more natural options. I’m probably not ever going to have a completely “green” routine, but hopefully replacing the products I use every day with non-toxic ingredients will have long-term health benefits.
