Creation to go

In the spirit of making the most of the intense heat of summer (as an excuse to indulge in ice cream, of course), I’ll note that Cold Stone Creamery offers more than just single-serving-sized cups of ice cream: You can also opt for larger quantities of whatever creation you want. This isn’t a secret but happens to be something my husband and I only recently discovered, so I assume others might also be unaware. And although leaving Cold Stone with a 48-ounce container might seem extravagant, it actually provides way more bang for your buck than buying individual servings.

Marble Bar Australian Bakery

I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not very adventurous food-wise. Not only am I a vegetarian, but (as I’ve mentioned in Josephine before) I am deathly allergic to nuts. A few months ago, I discovered Marble Bar Australian Bakery, based here in St. Joseph and created by native Aussie Claire Clark. Although they don’t have a regular restaurant yet, Marble Bar has wonderful options to pick up and take or to have catered at your events. The foods are rich and savory – I love the cheese tarts, vegetarian sausage rolls and the sweet and airy pavlova. Everything I’ve had has been in generous portions, so I’ve had leftovers. The best part for me is since Claire’s husband, Chris, is also allergic to nuts, she keeps all food and her kitchen nut-free. Find Marble Bar on Facebook at facebook.com/marblebarbakery.
