What is a Brazilian Blowout?
Sometimes our hair needs a quick recharge, and that's exactly what a Brazilian Blowout will do for it. If you're unfamiliar with this type of treatment, Bobi Borgman, a stylist at Edmond Street Parlor, shares why this could be just what you need.
"Heaven in a salon chair" is the best way to explain it, said Borgman, a stylist for 19 years. "It's good for just maintaining your hair on the daily. ... It definitely will put you in a better mood if that's how you start your day."
Many women have hair that’s naturally frizzy or difficult to contain (even just in a ponytail), so they have to wash, blow dry and straighten it every single day just to maintain a certain texture.
A Brazilian Blowout is a semi-permanent smoothing treatment that reduces frizz and controls your hair texture, making it easier to manage. The treatment may last for two to three months if maintained correctly by using the proper sulfate-free shampoos.
While each person's hair grows differently, it should last the same amount of time for everyone, Borgman says.
Anyone can schedule a Brazilian Blowout — men or women — and it works for every hair type, long or short. This process should "cut your blow dry and style time down by half," Borgman notes.
Depending on hair length and thickness, the base price for a Brazilian Blowout is about $250, usually including a trim.
Tip: If you opt for a color treatment first, then a smoothing treatment, it will help lock in your color.
