On Monday, the DeKalb County Circuit Court approved a wrongful death settlement for a double fatality motor vehicle accident involving a semi-truck in Stewartsville, Missouri.

According to Montee Law Firm, on April 23, 2016, Wanda Findley and Peggy Rinehart of Bethany, Missouri, were driving westbound on U.S. Highway 36 near Sharp Road, when a semi-truck driven by Daljit Singh at 64 miles per hour struck their vehicle in the rear.

The force of the impact killed both women.

James Montee of the Montee Law Firm represented Findley’s family. The lawsuit alleged the semi-truck driver was negligent for failing to keep a careful lookout. The lawsuit also alleged the driver’s employer and the owner-operator of the semi-truck violated federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations related to the driver’s training and qualifications.

The defendant companies were Western Transport Inc., West Side Trans Inc. and US 1 Express, Inc.

The case settled for $2,050,000, and was split between the families of the two women. The case was filed in DeKalb County on July 1, 2016.
