As a copy editor/page designer, Kelsey Saythany edits stories and photo captions, writes headlines and designs pages in the A and B sections of the News-Press

A native of Shelbina, Mo., Kelsey started as an intern at the News-Press in January 2011, becoming a full-time employee in May.

"I began this position as an intern after lots of encouragement from my professors," she said. "I was a little timid to work for a real-world newspaper. I'm glad I did; I enjoy my job and was thrilled to be offered a full-time position."

Kelsey earned her bachelor's degree in convergent media from Missouri Western State University in May. She received the Outstanding Graduate Award in Convergent Media and graduated cum laude.

Asked about her career choice, she said: "I have enjoyed reading and writing since early elementary school, so pursuing a degree in journalism seemed like the natural way to go."
