Ray Scherer covers business news and features Monday through Thursday and serves as the general-assignment reporter on Sundays.
The Sedalia, Mo., native began working at the News-Press in October 1999.
Ray earned an associate degree in journalism from State Fair Community College in Sedalia, and a bachelor degree in political science and journalism from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.
"I was drawn to the field by the influence of a journalism professor at my community college, who believed I had the ability to develop writing and reporting talent based on a personal column I submitted to the campus newspaper," he said. "My interest and experience has continued to multiply from there, to this very day at the News-Press."
Ray earned several awards from the Missouri College Newspaper Association, including for a critical review ("Attack of the Killer Tomatoes") and personal column.
