Gordon named Wilson defensive player of the year
Kansas City Royals outfielder Alex Gordon was named a Defensive Player of the Year by Wilson Sporting Goods on Wednesday. The honor is awarded to the top defensive player at each position in Major League Baseball.
He has been recognized by Wilson two times prior in 2014 and 2017 as the top left fielder.
Gordon finished the season with nine outfield assists, which is the most he has recorded since 2013. That mark left him only three assists behind the Major League leaders this season.
He has recorded 91 outfield assists since 2010 and is tied for most in the Majors with Colorado Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra.
In 260 total chances, Gordon was charged with only two errors in left field this season and finished with a .992 fielding percentage. He also recorded 18 defensive runs saved, which is the most among left fielders.
Gordon was also named a Rawlings Gold Glove winner for the sixth time in his career on Sunday, placing him second all-time in Royals history behind Frank White’s eight.
