The politicians in Jefferson City are worried about how to replace Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder should he be elected to a seat in Congress. My suggestion is that they get a department store mannequin, dress it in a suit and tie, and set it in the lieutenant governor’s office chair. This will not affect the amount of useful information or valuable programs that emanate from this office.

Spay and neuter for their sake and yours

Why spay/neuter your pet?

It reduces the number of homeless pets entering animal shelters. Sterilized animals are less likely to run away. Male cats are less likely to spray, and male dogs may be less likely to bite or get into fights with other dogs.

Spaying female dogs and cats gets rid of heat cycles. It eliminates certain common forms of cancer. Sterilized animals usually make better companions. They are less likely to develop behavior problems and generally have a better temperament.

Friends of the Animal Shelter is offering assistance to low-income families of St. Joseph during the last week of February to coincide with Spay Day USA to help control the overpopulation of unwanted animals. With the cooperation of local veterinarians, you can acquire an application from veterinarians’ offices or the shelter.

Lucinda, you should add that a pet adopted from an animal shelter will love you more than a pet bought at the store. There may be no evidence to actually confirm this but that won't stop me from telling people that.

Also, I think it's great that there is assistance to low-income families so they can fix their pets. But then again I question why a family that is low-income and can't afford their bills has a pet in the first place. That's an unnecessary mouth to feed.

Keith, the Lt. Gov. is responsible for promoting tourism I believe. Not sure what else they do.
