Francis P. McAsey

1926-2012

Francis P. “Sonny” McAsey, 85, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on June 11, 1926 in St. Joseph to William and Edna (Birmingham) McAsey.

Sonny graduated from Christian Brothers High School and was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where he was very supportive in sports and school activities and a member of the Monday morning work crew. He was a veteran, having served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 in New Guinea. Following his service to our country, Sonny worked as a clerk for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years, retiring in 1984.

Sonny married Doris Ann Seever on April 7, 1947 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Doris preceded him in death on October 12, 2011. They shared 64 years of marriage.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Carol McAsey; an infant son; brothers, William and James; and sister, Mary Ann Yager.

Survivors include his children, Nancy Braman (John), Peggy Boyer (Carl), Tom McAsey, and Debby Pioch (Joe), all of St. Joseph; nine grandchildren: Amy, John Matthew, Racheal, Travis, Casey, Andie, Patrick, Shane and Luke; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob McAsey (Jerri); sister, Nancy Herbert; numerous nieces and nephews; in-laws, Shirley McAsey, Trudy Seever, Julia and Monte Yager; and best friends, Roger and Helen Kerns.

Mass of Christian Burial: 2 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Sunday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Parish Rosary: 7 p.m. Sunday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.

The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Patrick Catholic Church or Hands of Hope Hospice.
