St. Joseph police were investigating after a teenager was shot in the stomach in the area of Lafayette Street late Thursday night.

Officers responded to the 2300 block of Lafayette Street at 10:30 p.m., where a 15-year-old white male had suffered a gunshot wound.

Sgt. Steve McClintick with the St. Joseph Police Department said the teenager was shot near the area of 2300 Lafayette St., but officers aren’t sure exactly where.

“It was close to that area,” he said.

The teenager was taken in an ambulance to Mosaic Life Care, where he underwent surgery.

Police said there were no suspects as of Friday morning and the victim’s condition wasn’t known.

The investigation is continuing.
