Missouri Western State University today joins a growing list of institutions of higher education that no longer tolerate tobacco use on campus.
An estimated 25 to 27 percent of Western’s students smoke or use smokeless tobacco, which means about 1,600 students will not be allowed to bring their tobacco habits to the 700-acre campus as of today. Administrators devised the policy last year and won approval from the university’s governing board. President Bob Vartabedian signed off on the policy last October.
