Government officials in one Northwest Missouri town could soon bring more than opinions to their meetings.

The Cameron City Council reviewed an ordinance Tuesday that would allow its members to carry a concealed weapon during meetings as long as they hold the proper state permits. The council will vote on the ordinance later this spring.

It should be legal for ANY properly licensed citizen to carry their gun into any government facility, and that includes court houses and Law enforcement offices.
What the officials have to know is WE, are not a threat to you ! It's the unlicensed criminal element that you need to worry about. It would be as easy to do as check everyone's ID at the door, instead of making everyone empty their pockets, you don't get the right to carry without going through FBI background check and being fingerprinted ! I carry mine for protection ONLY, and who knows, if a nut case came busting in with guns blazing, it could be YOUR life I saved !

The courthouse where all the criminals go to talk to judges etc. is where you empty your pockets you know. The council meetings are open and you aren't checked for anything at any time; unfortunately though, some check their brains at the door.

These are certainly different times than we have ever seen in our lifetime. People go off the handle for little to nothing. I live in Cameron and I believe our local officials have every right to be able to protect themselves. In fact, our whole nation has the right to protect themselves. The only rules (at least for now) is to do what is required. ie. background checks, fingerprints and a weapons classes in states that have "right to carry". We need to fight back against losing our gun rights as hard as we can. Honest people will be properly registered and the criminal will never have a legal gun. If we only have criminals with guns then we will be a third world country. Wake up Washington. It's not the type of gun a person carries but the mental condition of the carrier. We will never stop unnessary killing but we can certainly mimimize the amount of violence if the criminal knows we are an equal threat to them. Sorry, I went a little outside of officails carrying protection. I just have a very big problem with Washingtons approach to our gun laws. Keep fighting NRA. We are behind you all the way.

Agreed 100%. I'm not a gun owner simply because I'd rather spend my time and money on other hobbies. But I fully support your right to carry a weapon legally.

The people that are most vehement about being able to carry their guns around are the ones that are the most insecure about their lot in life. If it makes them feel more manly to pack around their gun like in the movies, let them. Speaks for itself.
