The City of St. Joseph Health Department Animal Control & Rescue division is reporting record numbers of temporary shelter residents. Due to overcrowding, the Friends of the Animal Shelter of St. Joseph, LLC, is holding a half-off special for dogs and cats adopted this week, Wednesday, May 23 through Saturday, May 26.

To adopt a shelter dog or cat, an application must be completed. It can be found on the city website, www.ci.st-joseph.mo.us/, by clicking on “Health Department” under “Government,” then using the left-hand column to go to the “Animal Control & Rescue” page. The adoption application must be submitted online, which can be done from a kiosk at the shelter.

The fees associated with adopting a pet vary, depending upon the size of the animal and whether it is spayed or neutered.

The Friends of the Animal Shelter of St. Joseph, LLC’s, Facebook page has photos of available animals, as does the animal shelter web page, stjoemo.animalshelternet.com/adoption_search_a.cfm.
