Kansas City Power & Light is offering rebates to customers who choose to make energy-related home improvements or buy new appliances.
Anyone who buys a refrigerator, freezer, or programmable thermostat can qualify for a KCP&L Home Appliance Rebate, said Dan Hegeman, the utility's North District community affairs manager. Rebates will also be offered for those who decide to haul away and recycle old appliances, with KCP&L assisting with the labor.
ENERGY STAR certified appliances also qualify for the rebates. ENERGY STAR is a government-backed program that promotes energy efficiency.
A Home Performance Rebate with ENERGY STAR offers a rebate when insulation, air infiltration, duct sealing, new windows or doors are added. An Air Conditioning Upgrade Program offers instant rebates for qualifying purchases.
Builders who meet requirements can participate in an ENERGY STAR Qualified New Homes Program. The program also contains provisions when standards are met for a Home Energy Rating System index. Businesses can also become eligible for incentives related to high-efficiency lighting and other systems.
