East Hills announces new restaurant

photo

Texas Roadhouse is set to open a 7,000-square-foot restaurant at the East Hills Shopping Center by the summer of 2010.

The chain restaurant will be located on the southeast corner of Belt Highway and Frederick Boulevard.

It will be the seventh Texas Roadhouse in Missouri.

"Texas Roadhouse is an excellent complement to East Hills' existing shopping, dining and entertainment line-up," said Ashley Albers, East Hills general manager.

Texas Roadhouse offers a family atmosphere with hand-cut steaks, ribs, fresh-baked bread and made-from-scratch side items, according to a news release.

Really? How much? LOL.

I have had good luck with Whiskey Creek Flat Iron steaks, and I do ask to sit at the far West end away from the smoke. It *usually* is far enough away, after you make your way past the smokey entryway. Haven't tried their prime rib though. I really don't go there much.

Good point about the peanuts, my cousin is deathly allergic. No way they could even think about going in.

I have seen restaurants that have two completely different sides, well ventilated that I have gone into without even smelling the smoke. Thats nice when the restuarants offers that. No matter where I sit in Cracker Barrell, I can always smell the smoke, I think they need to redo their ventilation. Also need to add Nelly's Mexican to the list of smoke-free restaurants. I wish the NPG would provide a list of smoke-free restuarants????

Now I have never had a good steak at Ground Round, I dont know what it is...leather? I literally could not chew it and ended up eating nothing. They need to upgrade their quality of beef. IMO.

RJW: There's a lot of room on that South East corner. It doesn't necessarily mean the Ground Round will be moved or out of business.

A little outdated, but this will give you an idea of some of the smoke-free restaurants in St Joe (courtesy of the City).

Best steak I have had in a long time was at the Black iron grill in rock port. Hope this place has good ones save on a long drive.

Texas Roadhouse has excellent steaks. Their sweet potatoes are pretty good also. If you like prime rib, this is the place to get it.

Try a piece of rye bread soaked with au jus with your prime. That's the only way I eat it since I tried it.

Thanks Sunny, I will definitely check it out. And sense, I tend to agree with you. Nothing better than a PRIME certified angust beef steak charcoal grilled, but where can you get "prime" CAB anymore? Usually in the store you see "choice" or worse yet "select". Nothing compares to prime, but you have to pay for it, but oh-so-good.

Realityck - agree the flat iron isnt the best cut of meat, but the way they fix it and tender, I find it better than the other steaks they offer. Will have to try the Rockport steak sometime.

St Joe needs a good steakhouse, and I hope this Texas Roadhouse is it.

Texas Roadhouse is one of the best steakhouses in the country. I've been to several from Arizona to Virginia and they were all great. It can get a little pricy at times, but you get what you pay for.

As far as smoking or nonsmoking, they last I knew was that any new restaurant being built in St. Joe has to be nonsmoking, unless a section for smoking is completely sealed off from the nonsmoking section with its own ventilation system. I could be wrong though.

This is awesome news! It's about time we got a restaurant that has prime rib all the time and not just on Saturdays! This is a welcome addition to this community! But yes, bad for the budget! Sure hope it is non smoking! If you can't go one hour without a cigarette and to enjoy a good meal and let everyone else enjoy theirs, then there's something wrong!

This will also give Em Chamas Steakhouse an excuse when they close next year. It wont have anything to do with their mediocre food, high prices or the fact that they are downtown.

suzyQ if you want real C.A.B. the Price Chopper in Platte City is the closest place you are gonna find it.

Texas Roadhouse will occupy the empty lot area to the east of Ground Round. Ground Round is not closing. The southeast corner of the East Hills Shopping Center is pretty big. It can easily occupy two restaurants and both still be considered to be located on the southeast corner. Unless the new restaurant takes on a different format from its existing locations, Texas Roadhouse has both smoking and non-smoking sections. As far as new restaurants being built in St. Joseph not allowing smoking, that is completely false. Per city code, businesses with a substantial portion of its revenue coming from food sales has to comply with the Missouri Clean Air Standard. This means that both smoking and non-smoking areas need to be separate and each have their own ventilation systems.

I can live with separate areas and separate ventilating systems just as long it is working efficiently.

rabbie- I don't mind traveling a bit to get "prime" CAB. Do you know of any "real" butcher shops that have prime CAB? I miss the one that closed up here about a year ago. I got everything cut and ground and wrapped just the way I wanted it!

rr, there is no comparison between the two establishments. the roadhouse ( in florida ) which i have been to is another riff on the same of many..... the wild west theme and the peanuts on the floor. it is a beer drinking middle priced Casual joint, homogenous to the palate and predictable. em chamas is more sophisticated, has a broad menu with a a much more elegant atmosphere. their prices are not outrageous and the lounge menu is very reasonable.

personally i like outback steakhouse the best when it comes to chain steak offerings.

I think it's high time we have at least one place to eat that isn't sleeves optional.

Awww shucks I guess I'm just an unsophisticated kind of eater then. I prefer my ribeyes to be marbled and come with a loaded baked potato as opposed to lean with steamed veggies. Em Chamas isn't bad (GASP..My unsophisticated palate has eaten there)Fogo de Chão on the Plaza is much better. The lounge menu is not what people will be going too Em Chamas to eat it is the Rodizio service which is $40.00 a person.

PS-suzyQ I miss The Meat Market too. Sadly Jason could not keep it going because most people in St. Joseph are not willing to pay for C.A.B. The one at Price Chopper is as close to Meat Market you will get around here they will custom cut and wrap just like Jason did it you just have to drive 35 miles to get it.

Em Chamas is excellent and gives this town a more formal nicer restaurant, which it is currently lacking. Despite the official menu price of $40, You can eat there pretty much any time for $20-25 full service. If they recreate what they have in North Kansas city it should be an excellent place. Certainly not a place people will go eat at all of the time, but we have more than enough of those in this town.

I hope they can cook a rare steak that doesn't have to be sent back. I actually had a restaurant manager tell me that they prepare their steaks according to what most people here consider rare. The dreaded St. Joe rare(medium at best).

Rabbie-I bought all of my beef there and some of the other kinds of meat. Sigh. I got a roast here locally last week at the grocery store, it was a poor excuse for meat, but my dog ended up liking it after I tossed it - so not all was lost.

I bet most people didn't know they could get fresh gound chuck or sirloin CAB prime at the Meat Market for the same price as the cheap stuff at Walmart or Hyvee (without added water solution). The steaks couldn't be matched...and I have yet to find a new comparable place to by beef. Yes, I would drive 35 minutes and then some with my cooler to get quality meat. I will go to this Price Chopper, but I prefer a butcher shop. What I really liked about Jason, was everything was cut and out in the open, clean environment. Thats not so anywhere else. Too bad its closed :(
