Two in alleged crime spree work through Missouri courts
SAVANNAH, Mo. - A protracted road through the state's court system continues for two 20-year-olds who allegedly participated in a five-day, three-county Northwest Missouri crime spree in late 2008.
Blake Siddens and Nathaniel Raines earned a total of 52 felony charges. The two allegedly fired bullets from a .45-caliber weapon into three homes in Ford City while driving through the community on Nov. 25, 2008. The next day, the two suspects allegedly fired shots that struck two vehicles and fired at three other vehicles while traveling on Missouri Highway 31 in DeKalb County.
Then, on Nov. 29 and 30, the two allegedly stole four vehicles. Two of those vehicles were burned and two were wrecked.
The two remain in jail and are being transported to courtrooms in Maysville, Albany and Savannah as their cases grind through the courts.
Mr. Siddens is charged with three felony counts of discharging a firearm at passing motor vehicles, tampering with a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.
On Wednesday, Mr. Siddens appeared in Maysville for a routine case review. Circuit Court Judge Warren McElwain granted a motion for Mr. Siddens to have a new judge, and transferred the case to Circuit Court Judge Brent Elliot. No date has been set for a trial.
On Jan 6, Mr. Siddens will be transported to Albany to appear before Associate Circuit Judge Ed Manring on four felonies. These are: three counts of unlawful use of a weapon and one count of armed criminal action. No date has been set for a trial.
In Savannah, Mr. Siddens' case is scheduled to go to trial before Circuit Judge Patrick Robb on June 24. That case involves one second-degree burglary charge, two counts of first-degree property damage, six counts of tampering with a motor vehicle, four counts of stealing a motor vehicle, theft, two counts of knowingly burning a motor vehicle and two counts of theft of a firearm.
Mr. Raines had been charged with 18 felonies and a misdemeanor in Andrew County for his part in allegedly stealing four vehicles. He entered guilty pleas Monday to one count of forgery, four counts of stealing and two counts of tampering. He had been charged with three counts of forgery, six counts of tampering with a motor vehicle, four counts of stealing a motor vehicle, one count of theft, two counts of knowingly burning, two counts of theft of firearms and one misdemeanor count of stealing motor fuel.
Andrew County Prosecutor Steve Stevenson dismissed 11 felonies and one misdemeanor as part of the plea agreement Monday.
Fifth Circuit Court Judge Weldon Judah refused to be bound by Monday's plea agreement and will sentence Mr. Raines on Feb. 17.
Mr. McElwain accepted a guilty plea from Mr. Raines on Nov. 25 in Maysville to felony charges of aiding a person discharging a firearm, tampering with a motor vehicle and recovering stolen property. No date has been set for sentencing.
Mr. Raines will be transported to Albany on Dec. 31 for a plea hearing on three felony charges of unlawful use of a weapon and one charge of armed criminal action before Circuit Judge Roger Prokes.
