Edgerton sets annual Pioneer Days
The 2009 Edgerton Pioneer Days will be held the weekend of Sept. 11 to 13 in and around the city park in Edgerton, Mo.
The opening ceremony is set for 5 to 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at the park's bandstand. An arts and crafts festival will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the park and continues Saturday and Sunday.
Other Sept. 11 events include a fish fry, which will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 503 Belt St. The Little Mr. and Miss Edgerton contest is set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the bandstand.
Saturday's schedule includes a biscuits and gravy breakfast from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at the legion hall. A bike rodeo is set for 8 a.m. at the firehouse located at 500 Belt.
There will be a performance by the Marching Cobras at the bandstand immediately after the parade, which is set for 10 a.m. to noon. Units will line up at the North Platte Intermediate School, 900 Lewis St.
A classic car show will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. downtown. A Youth Explosion skateboard competition is set for 1 to 5 p.m. at the skate park located at the park.
A community church service will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon Sunday at the bandstand. A Boy Scout-sponsored barbecue meal is set for noon to 2 p.m. at the legion building. A children's festival will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the bandstand.

Rain garden workshop
The Mo-Kan Regional Council will partner with Shockey Consulting Inc. of Kansas City and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources in sponsoring two rain garden workshops Sept. 21 and Oct. 5 at the East Hills Library, 502 N. Woodbine Road.
The cost is $20, which includes a rain garden guide and brochures.
A rain garden allows rainwater runoff from impervious urban areas such as roofs and driveways. Registration forms can be picked up at the Mo-Kan office, 1302 Faraon St.; front desk of St. Joseph City Hall, 1100 Frederick Ave.; or at East Hills Library.
Registration and payment must be submitted to Mo-Kan by 5 p.m. Sept. 18.
