FARIBAULT, Minn. -- What could be bad about hitting a near-impossible hockey shot for $50,000?
Well for twin brothers Nate and Nick, their honesty might cost them the award.
The twin boys were at a charity hockey game with their father, Pat Smith. The family bought three $10 raffle tickets for the chance to take the shot. But since Nate had just had a cast taken off his arm, they wrote "Nick" on all three tickets.
Nick got bored with the game, and decided to leave. Smith said Nick told Nate to take the shot if his name was called.
Of course, Nick's ticket was drawn and Nate headed to the ice.
He made a bouncing, fluttering shot, but the 3-inch puck righted itself and sneaked through the 3.5-inch hole.
Nate took the glory as Nick, but the next day the family took the high road and confessed to the switch-up.
As for the prize money, it's up to Odds on Promotions; which insured the event. A spokesman with the company said they haven't decided what to do, but are investigating.
Smith said if the company opts to give them the money, he would give some of the money to charity and save the rest for his sons' college fund.
