The Apple Blossom Parade is going with a mix of the old and the new for its 2010 theme.

The parade theme, “Expanding St. Joe Horizons: From Ponies to Planes,” is intended to reference the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express and the May 1 performance of the Blue Angels air show.

“This parade theme works perfectly with the 150th Anniversary of the Pony Express and the Sound of Speed Air Show that is being held parade weekend,” Executive Director Michelle Wolfe said in a statement.

Parade entrants are encouraged to reflect this theme in their entries.

“We’ve seen some wonderful floats in recent years,” association President Ken Rosenauer said, “but this is the year we really want to see the number of those floats rise.”

The grand prize for the float that best represents the parade theme will be $300, with second place receiving $150 and third place $75. In addition, non-cash recognition plaques for units will be given for Best Float, Best Vintage Float, Best Vintage Vehicle, Best Walking Unit and Best Band.

Parade entry forms are now available by calling (816) 294-9517 or by going to www.appleblossomparade.com.

Entry forms, including fees, must be submitted by mail. The regular parade entry deadline is April 15. The parade is May 1.
