YWCA program receives grant for breast cancer awareness
The St. Joseph YWCA’s ENCOREplus program has received a $35,000 one-year grant from the Avon Breast Health Outreach Program to help increase awareness of the benefits of early detection and provide resources to help women have easier access to breast screenings.
Since January 2015, the ENCOREplus program has reached more than 4,000 women in Buchanan and Andrew counties with education about the importance of early detection of breast cancer. The program also has referred almost 1,500 women for mammograms and clinical breast exams.
The ENCOREplus program was selected as one of 56 grant recipients nationwide in the 2016 cycle of the Avon Breast Health Outreach Program grants.
