Men Have Special Skin Needs, Too

Moisturizers, Cleansing Not Just For Women

Men may not have grown up in a culture that tells them to pamper their skin and protect it from the world, but more males are finding that a little bit of extra work can help them look their best.

Sometimes, though, they don't need to go for the lotions and potions that marketers want them to buy.

Some men have found that the best way to get rid of dead skin -- a process called exfoliation -- and keep pores clear is to scrub hard with warm water and a towel.

One kind of lotion, however, should be used daily by people of either sex, experts say.

They want people to slather on sunscreen regularly.

It can help reduce the signs of aging, including sun spots and wrinkles.

And if that sunscreen also contains a moisturizer, it's that much better for keeping skin smooth and soft.

Men's Problems

One problem men suffer more obviously than women is ingrown hairs, especially after shaving.

These razor bumps can be painful and ugly, but proper skin care can help keep them from forming.

Another thing more common is men is acne on the back. The problem can be worse in warm months, when men sweat more and aren't able to clean as well.

Making sure to scrub and cleanse well can help prevent outbreaks, and some spas offer special "facials" for the back.
