Bean Lake

A flooded area near Bean Lake, seen in this 2014 aerial photo, is the scene of a death that isn’t believed to be foul play, authorities say.

Platte County, Missouri, authorities announced Friday afternoon that they were investigating the death of a 61-year-old white male in the Bean Lake vicinity.

Platte County Sheriff’s Office authorities indicate the man’s body was located about 11 a.m. Friday in the area of an overturned boat in a flooded area near Bean Lake, north of Weston, Missouri, according to a press release from Public Information Officer Erik Holland.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call Thursday evening from family members of a man who lived in the area. The family members advised they were unable to make contact with the man. Initial attempts to locate the man on Thursday were unsuccessful.

The name of the deceased man was withheld to allow the family members to make notifications. Holland said it does not appear foul play was involved. However, the official cause of death is pending the results of the medical examiner’s investigation.

Platte County Sheriff Mark S. Owen thanked the Missouri State Highway Patrol Marine Division for assistance at the scene.
